Nippon Vs Dulux

Quick answer: Nippon and Dulux are both established brands with similar ranges (budget, washable, odour-less, anti-mould and exterior), so compare the specific range rather than the brand name. On price, white Nippon Vinilex 5000 5L costs about S$84–85 at Horme and HardwareCity, while Dulux Wash & Wear 5L is S$69.90 at PowerJ (including GST, checked 24 October 2026). Nippon is easy to find in Singapore hardware shops. Dulux says some ranges, such as Pentalite, are sold only through selected stores, not online. For mould-prone rooms, choose an anti-mould range from either brand. Our HDB packages use Nippon paint; see our Nippon Paint price list.

Which should you choose?

  • Choose Nippon if you want paint you can buy or have tinted at almost any hardware shop, or you are matching an existing Nippon colour.
  • Choose Dulux Wash & Wear if you want a washable mid-range paint at a slightly lower price per 5L, based on the prices we checked.
  • For mould-prone rooms, pick an anti-mould range from either brand; the range matters more than the brand.
  • For outside walls, both have weather-resistant exterior ranges (Nippon Weatherbond, Dulux Weathershield).

What matters more than the brand

Most bad paint jobs come from preparation, not the brand: painting over damp or dusty walls, skipping the sealer on patches, or using only one coat. Whichever brand you choose, fix damp first, fill and seal repairs (see what sealer paint is for), and apply 2 coats.

Frequently asked questions

Is Nippon or Dulux better for an HDB flat?

Both work well on HDB walls. Choose by range: a washable range for living areas, an anti-mould range for bathrooms and ceilings, and a budget matt range for ceilings and rental flats.

Which is cheaper, Nippon or Dulux?

In our October 2026 check, Dulux Wash & Wear 5L (S$69.90) was cheaper than white Nippon Vinilex 5000 5L (about S$84–85). For budget ceilings, Nippon Matex 20L at S$88 is good value. Prices vary by store.

Do both brands have low-odour paints?

Yes. Nippon’s Odour-less ranges are aimed at people who stay at home while painting, and Dulux also sells low-odour interior paints. Check the label for the specific product.
